learning from the funnies

I learned something new today. Thanks NYT!

Apparently Schroeder was actually playing Beethoven tunes in the "Peanuts" cartoons. And, in a secret-code-like precursor to listening to the Beatles backwards for Satanic messages, the actual passages Schultz quoted in the strip "enhance" the joke or the emotion or the character.

Who knew?

i read that too. i always suspected i was missing something. i think i tried to read the music once, but my gradeschool training of FACE and EGBDF was not enough. i was jealous of people who could read music, could pick up a sheet and sing something they had never heard.

you kind of have to have a keyboard of some sort nearby. i think i tried playing a snippet once, but my overall lack of Beethoven-related intelligence prevented the pitch-picking from enhancing my reading experience.
